The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Estimator / Quantity Surveyor with proven industry experience to handle a diverse portfolio of drainage and earthworks projects. This role involves accurate estimation, cost planning, contract management, and project support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tender Preparation and Submission: Lead the preparation and submission of tenders by collaborating with stakeholders to gather and analyse project-specific requirements, provide key insights, and coordinate all necessary inputs.

  • Accurate Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for residential, commercial, and civil drainage and earthworks projects, including conducting quantity take-offs and preparing SOQs (Schedules of Quantities) using cloud-based systems such as Groundplan.

  • Plan Review and Risk Assessment: Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to identify cost impacts, potential risks, and opportunities for optimisation.

  • Supplier and Subcontractor Negotiation: Negotiate and secure competitive pricing for materials, subcontractors, and supplies while maintaining cost efficiency and quality standards.

  • Tender Handover and Project Support: Ensure seamless handovers of successful tenders and estimates to construction teams by transitioning them into detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules, while providing ongoing project assistance.

  • Project Cost Management: Manage and track project costs throughout the lifecycle, including addressing variations, preparing claims, and ensuring timely submission and approval.

  • Budget Monitoring and Performance Tracking: Monitor project budgets and financial performance by working closely with project managers, site teams, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered within scope and budget.

  • Market Research and Analysis: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, pricing, and performance through regular research and analysis, ensuring the company remains competitive and informed.

Here's what we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced estimator with a strong background in bulk earthworks and civil construction. You should meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in estimating  the drainage, earthworks, or construction industry.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using a cloud-based take-off system such as Groundplan (preferred). Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with financial/project management software such as SimPRO.

  • Qualifications: While not essential, a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Estimation would be advantageous.

  • Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and detail in preparing cost estimates and tender submissions and the ability to work to deadlines under pressure.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills to collaborate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams effectively.

  • Practical Experience: Hands-on experience in drainage and/or earthworks projects is desirable.
